World Book Day
The children and staff of Knightswood Primary School "Made a Splash2 on World Book Day. We had a fun-filled day with an "Under the Sea" theme. The children raised over £100 for the Readathon Charity.
All of the money raised in Scotland will stay in Scotland. Thanks for all your support.
All children were given a free book to take home along with a bookmark giving details of a new book review section on our school website. We look forward to reading all your reviews in the weeks to come.
The children and staff!..... wore a wide selection of fancy dress costumes and our whole school assembly was a sight to behold. Underwater creatures, pirates, mermaids, Willy Wonka, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe all made apperances.
Prizes were awarded to Ryan Dunphy, Darren Fagen, Andrei Cheplakov and Amy Wilson. Mrs. McKendrick was also awarded a prize for walking around all day dressed as a wardrobe!
The "Big Splash Book Fair" was a great success. We sold books totalling £1035.00. so we have the fabulous sum of £621.00 to spend on new books for the school. Thanks to everyone who visited the book fair.
Mystery Readers visited every class in the school throughout the day and shared stories with the children. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed a number of entertaining stories.
Easter Events
Last week the P2b children performed a wonderful Easter Assembly retelling the Easter story through music and drama. Rev. Dillon attended the assembly and there was an amazing response to the Easter Egg appeal. The eggs were taken to the Glasgow City Mission by Rev. Dillon.
P4-P7 walked to Temple-Anniesland Church for an
Easter Service with Rev. Wilson. P7 boys played the part of the disciples and Rachel Peebles,Broghan MacLean and Emma Turner did a reading.
The choir sang beautifully, harmonising perfectly, we are very proud of them.
Thank you Mrs. McKnight.
Attendance
Thank you for ensuring you contact the school when your child is absent. This has reduced the number of follow up phone calls the school has to make. If we are unaware of why your child is absent, we have a duty to phone all contact numbers to try to establish a reason for absence. When you phone the school, please let us know when you expect your child to return. Please phone before 9.30am as this is when the teachers alert the office to any absences.
We are also aiming for an attendance rate of 96%, or above, and we have a legal duty to alert you if this rate falls below 90%.
Calling All Green-fingered Parents, Joiners or Garden Landscapers.
The Eco Committee is looking for parent helpers to improve the school grounds. This includes, digging, advising pupils on planting seeds/bulbs, building a small fence and building a greenhouse. If you are able to donate your time any afternoons, please let Miss Burns or Mrs. Robertson know. We are also looking for parents to donate any garden tools, bulbs/seeds, new wood, slabs or garden furniture.
Many thanks.

Sunflower Room
Just to remind parents of children attending the Sunflower Room that they are welcome to drop in on Thursday afternoons for tea and a chat.
Reading Volunteer Project
We are currently working with the Community Relations Department of Abbey to organise a reading volunteer programme in Knightswood Primary School.
This pilot project involves approximately 12 members of Abbey staff visiting the school during their lunch break on a weekly basis to work with the children on reading activities. In the first instance we will be involving them in the Paired Reading Scheme for Primary 1-3.
This is a very exciting project as it fosters links with the business community and will
hopefully be of great benefit to the children in their literacy development. We would like to assure you that all adults working in a voluntary capacity in the school have been checked for suitability by Disclosure Scotland. We anticipate the project will begin soon after the Easter holiday and will keep you up to date with progress.
The Lending Library
Mrs Lockhart and Ms Reid will be starting up the Knightswood Lending Library again after the Easter break. They have volunteered to run the library every Thursday afternoon. Children from P2 to P7 will be able to borrow a book to take home.If there are any budding librarians out there who would be willing to assist please contact Ms O'Sullivan.
Review of Wind in the Willows.
I thought it was phenomenal. It was played by two people, but it was great. The characters they played were mainly wild animals like ratty, badger, mole, toad and many more. My favourite scene was when toad escaped from jail. Although it was a play, it seemed to be that it was more of a pantomime as they asked us to join in the songs and to help them find a horse. The play in itself would be suitable for all ages because it was fun to watch and join in, however, as it lasted one and a half hours, without any interval, it might be better for age range 8 years plus.
